-
47% while commuting in a car
-

RESEARCH

Existing methods of people find audiobooks?
DESIGN OPPORTUNITY
The common way of finding audiobooks is through recommendation from friends. This reflects the possibility of the connection between listening and socializing. Designing behaviors that can change the audiobook discovering and listening process from a boring personal experience to an interesting group behavior is my next development direction.

Through the competitive analysis, I found that very few apps combine social behavior with audiobook listening experience. Some products are limited to special groups of people, like children. Although they have characteristics, they make the user range of the non-mass market even more limited. By this way, we need to design an app that could givie users more choices on books and allow users to share resources more widely.
DESIGN OPPORTUNITY
HMW
create a platform that enhance the connection between
social behavior and audiobook experience?
HOW MIGHT WE

Social Connection
Changing users’ behaviors from listening alone to share with others. Users add friends and message each other to share their audiobook listening experience with other people.

Discovery Initiatively
Changing users’ book finding behaviors from passively referenced by app to actively explore what other people nearby are reading in real time. They have more initiative, which will make them more interested in the books they find.

Self Motivation
In order to make our users have more interaction with their friends, they join in a same challenge based on time. And motive each other by achieving their challenge goal.
FEATURES
COST&REVENUE
To see the AudiobookClub through business view of point, I generate 2 main cost structures and 2 revenue stream.

Cost Structure
The cost of royalty to the book publishers, paying the authors who are performing the books for the work that they’ve done.

Cost Structure
Digital platform management cost and development cost

Revenue Structure
Book purchase

Revenue Structure

Jessica Miller
bio
Jessica is an audiobook lover and had kept her audiobook listening habit as a daily routine for at least 3 years. Regularly, she has a 45-minute subway and walking to work. As commuting on the New York City Subway can be a physical and emotional struggle, she always decides to release her stress by filling her ears with a good audiobook. Also, Jessica is really passionate about discussing the wonderful content of the book with her friends and very curious about what books other people are listening to.

REFLECTION
As a audiobook enthusiast, I deeply feel the instability of users in this small group. It is hard for users to form audiobook listening habits , and this loss is not only due to the listening book itself, but more because of the single function of the current listening book software. The ultimate goal for this project is to create a platform for users to listen to books continuously, in which I added social and other elements. But while adding features, it also brings privacy issues. Because of the niche nature of my own group, how to expand this group in the future will also be my next design and thinking point.

At the moment, I believe that interaction design is more than just a single sensory design. Interaction designers should start from multiple senses to make the user's immersive experience more perfect. In this listening book software, listening session is another important design point besides the UI interface. In the following process, I will start with the details and make the listening experience in the process of listening to the book more perfect.
