Housing Crisis

San Francisco and the Bay Area are currently in the midst of a housing affordability crisis unprecedented in their history. Increases in housing prices and displacement pressures have been a long-term trend, driven by policy decisions first established decades ago and amplified by regional and national economic trends. Over the last 5 years, the crisis has intensified as the region’s high-wage employment the base has grown while regional housing production has not kept pace.

Cost of living can be measured with RPP. These show differences in price levels and are expressed as a percentage of the US national price level. The San Francisco region is far above the peer average.

Advertising

In addition to the online mode, we hope that homeless people who are not able to access the Internet can see us around the city. We chose to set up billboards at bus stations, which are common places for low-income people, as one of our publicity methods. There will be a brief introduction and contact information on our advertisements.

Reflection

Reflection

The epidemic has cast a haze on the US economy, and the housing crisis has gradually emerged. During the epidemic, many Americans were unable to pay their mortgages. In the worst period, about 3.6 million homeowners were overdue for 90 days or more. This makes it more difficult for people with financial difficulties to live in San Francisco, where already have large number of homeless people and high housing prices.

In this project, the loopholes in the current government solutions were discovered through investigation and research. In addition, the offline method in the past did not apply during the epidemic isolation period, but through our platform, the application for affordable housing can be completed online. At the same time, users can track the status of their housing application, which to a certain extent gives users a better psychological experience.

Interaction design itself has a close relationship with anthropology and psychology. In this project, we want to give users a better psychological experience and comfort them in the epidemic situation through design. To achieve this goal, we tried to make the application process more simple and straightforward, and use softer color on visual design to make users in a relaxed state of mind. In the process, I better understood the power of interaction design and its impact on humans. Although we faced various problems in this process, and the final design still had many flaws. But I am really proud of being able to use design to help people.
